Lone Wolf in the city

Posted by admin on January 19, 2012

Yesterday I was in Chicago, near Nagle and Northwest highway, when out from the train tracks slinked a big black wolf. He looked over a hundred pounds, well fed, but very low to the ground. Well out of his enviorment, in heavy traffic, with pedestrians, he deftly crossed over Northwest highway, and turned down the street at a fast, even pace. He followed the sidewalk path shortly before he passed a pedestrian as if an automobile in the fast lane. Tail down, ears down, not looking at anyone, or anything, completely submissive. The pedestrian did not react.

I suppose he was a bit out of his element. We can all relate to that sometimes.

Tonight I pray for that lone wolf, and hope that he can continue on his journey, quietly, and unassuming. Panic would ensue once he is realized, although he is really no threat, unless cornered.

Musical Influences

Posted by admin on January 13, 2012

Last weekend a new friend MarkE asked me about my musical influences.  Honestly, it's hard for me to pin-point anything in particular, all types of music has inspired me at different times of my life. Music in and of itself is not just background noise for me. During hard emotional periods, music became a pernicious beast, entrapping me in turmoil. To free myself from the emotional pain associated with music, I had to live without it for a while.

Well, enough moments have passed and it is time for me to get back to singing life's happy tunes.  Time also to actively pursue like minded people to pursue my dream of making music.  My new journey has begun.

So, anyway, been thinking, if I was to do 10 cover tunes in a quick up-beat set, I'd pick the following songs:

1) Your not there - Zombies

Start off the set with something most people would expect, an older song yes, but one of the top 300 songs of all times.

2) Animal - Neon Trees

Something new & upbeat.

3) Ball & Chain - Social Distortion

Classic Rock and Roll

4) You make me hot - Donnas

Yes, girls CAN rock!

5) Walk - Foo Fighters

Good new music.

6) Last Time - Rolling Stones

Up-Beat and Classic Rock

7) Pumped up Kicks - Foster the People

Love the beat, and raspy nefarious lyrics.

8) Somebody's Baby - Jackson Browne

Ok, so I'm showing my age.

9) Everybody Wants to Rule the World. - Tears for Fears

Understandable if it's not someone's thing, great song from a great movie.  (Breakfast Club)

10) How do you like me now - The Heavy

So what cha think?

How do you like now?

HappyNewYear

It is official!  2012 is here.  I rang in the New Year with some new friends. A fun time was had by all, and most importantly, everyone was safe and responsible.  Personally, I consumed 3 libations in about 5 hours, finishing my last one shortly after the magic minute.  After mid-nite everyone was gracious enough to listen me play a match box 20 song on my ukulele. I only know three chords and can play two songs.  Too bad I could not remember the lyrics of my own song!!!!

Some of my goals for 2012 are:

Increase my vocabulary, and decrease my profanity.

To practice more patience.

Organize my time better and increase my productivity.

Regimen my guitar, ukulele, drums, and bass playing.

Eat better, exercise more.

Learn my own songs throughly.

Practice more in front of people, and find people to jam with on a consistant basis.

My new ukulele

Posted by admin on December 16, 2011

In March of this year, I almost bought a place in Cairo, Illinois.  Where is Cairo?  It is the farthest place south you can go and yet still be in the great state of Illinois.  I'm not sure if it is possible to talk about Cairo and not mention the word "Confluence". Seems that every blog, post, story, or reference to this city uses this word to describe where the Mississippi and Ohio river's converge and become one. Seemingly, and ironically so, the confluence has abandoned Cairo like the rest of humanity.  My time spent there was like wading through a sea of contempt and apathy.  Never have I experienced so much hostility from all sides of what seems a timeless war.  Some quotes that were lobbed toward us from the xenophobic locals:

There is a special kind of stupid here in Cairo.

You don't want that building to end up a pile of rubble now do ya?  Do ya?  (Note, the emphasis at the end was particularly scary the time, guess you had to be there.)

We all gotta stick together.  (Me and my co-horts were NOT included in the we all)

ShadowMoonEclipse

Hope to see you soon

Shadow eclipse Of the moon

Lamenting in a red dress

Out our back door In duress

Dancing before the dawn

Prancing like a newborn fawn

Celebrating away

And welcoming the new day

My First Blog Post

Posted by admin on November 11, 2011

Hey Hey Folks!

This is my first Blog.  It's volume goes to ELEVEN!  Someday I will share why my friend Dan reminds me so much of Nigel from Spinal Tap.  It's not just his scruffy, 80's rock look.  Any member of his softball team will tell you "80's", his official softball player handle, can still play.  So, today's day just happens to be 11/11/2011.  This morning I somehow missed the moment of 11/11/2011 at exactly 11 minutes past 11!  It slipped by without any sort of etheral experience.  Just another moment we lived through like any other day.

But tonight will be different.  Tonight I will be ready for the moment.  I shall anticipate it's numerological beauty.  I will transcend from the moment of "now" to the moment of "then". Hmm, but then it will be now, but now will be gone,   Third base!

update: 12:42 am

Damm, missed it again.  Oh well.  True beauty is in the dozen. True inner happiness will be attained on 12/12/2012 at 12:12.  If Eleven was the best, then Twelve will certainly be better.
